2. Parent Code of Conduct

As a parent or caregiver of a player at Doncaster Hockey Club (DHC), I/we acknowledge the following principles and commit to upholding them:

1. Participation is a Privilege
We recognise that our child’s opportunity to play hockey at DHC is a privilege, not a right and that our behaviour can directly impact their experience.

2. Focus on Values
Hockey promotes teamwork, respect, and fair play—values that are central to personal growth and success in the sport.

3. Leading by Example
As parents, we recognise that our actions and attitudes set an example for our children. We will strive to demonstrate respect, positivity, and sportsmanship in all our interactions.

4. Commitment to England Hockey’s Standards
We agree to support and uphold England Hockey’s Code of Conduct and DHC’s club policies, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all participants.

Guidelines for Behaviour

To uphold these principles, I/we agree to the following:

1. Encourage Fair Play and Respect
We should support our children and their teammates in playing by the rules, respecting referees, coaches, and opponents, and acknowledging good performances from both teams.

2. Prioritise Development
Emphasise skill development, effort, and enjoyment over results, fostering a positive approach to the game.

3. Respect Coaches and Volunteers
Recognise the efforts of coaches and volunteers who dedicate their time to developing players. Support their decisions and follow the guidelines they set.

4. Adhere to England Hockey’s Code of Conduct
Act in accordance with the values and standards outlined in England Hockey’s Code of Conduct, ensuring behaviour that reflects positively on the club and the sport.

5. Manage Emotional Responses
Avoid engaging in heated or confrontational discussions during or immediately after matches. Allow a cooling-off period of 24 hours before raising concerns constructively with club representatives.

6. Maintain a Positive Match Environment
Avoid any hostile or inappropriate language or behaviour directed at players, referees, coaches, or other spectators during matches or events.

7. Raise Concerns Appropriately
If a concern arises, respectfully and constructively report it through the appropriate club channels, such as the Welfare Officer or Club Chair.

Consequences for Misconduct

Doncaster Hockey Club reserves the right to address breaches of this Code of Conduct fairly and consistently.

Sanctions may include:

1. Verbal Warning
A formal verbal warning will be issued to highlight unacceptable behaviour. This will be recorded for reference.

2. Written Warning
A written warning will outline the nature of the breach, its impact, and the expected behaviour going forward.

3. Temporary Suspension
The individual may be suspended from attending matches, training sessions, or other club activities for a defined period, with clear terms provided in writing.

4. Permanent Exclusion
In severe or repeated breaches, the individual may be permanently excluded from the club. This decision will be formally documented, with reasons clearly outlined.

5. Referral to England Hockey or External Authorities
The matter may be referred to England Hockey, regulatory bodies, or external authorities for further investigation and action if warranted. All sanctions will be applied according to DHC’s policies and England Hockey’s guidelines.

Right of Appeal

Parents or caregivers subject to disciplinary action have the right to appeal. The process is as follows:

1. Submitting an Appeal: Appeals must be submitted within 10 days of receiving the sanction. They should be addressed in writing to the Club Secretary.

2. Review by Appeals Committee: An Appeals Committee, comprising at least two members not involved in the original disciplinary process, will review the case.

3. Timeline:
The Appeals Committee will convene within seven days of receiving the appeal to determine whether to uphold, modify, or overturn the original decision.

4. Final Decision: If the case is referred back to the Disciplinary Committee, the final decision following the review will be binding, and there will be no further right to appeal.
