Development vs Sheffield Bankers
3-4
On Saturday afternoon, the Doncaster Development Team faced off against Sheffield Bankers in a thrilling and evenly matched contest. Both teams played brilliantly, demonstrating skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship that both sets of parents enjoyed from the side lines.
The game began at a high tempo, with chances for both sides. However, it was Sheffield Bankers who managed to break the deadlock, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. Despite the setback, the Doncaster players remained positive, buoyed by an encouraging and supportive halftime talk from the adults.
The second half saw a rejuvenated Doncaster side return to the pitch with fighting spirit. Their determination soon paid off as A Bellerby executed a stunning short corner strike—undoubtedly a skill inherited from his talented Grandma—to equalise. Momentum continued to build when O Wade showcased finesse with a delicate lifted finish, giving Doncaster the lead.
The excitement didn't stop there, as T Porritt found the back of the net with his first goal, a milestone moment. With Doncaster in the driving seat, the game seemed to be swinging in their favour.
However, Sheffield Bankers showed resilience, equalising each time Doncaster edged ahead. With only minutes left on the clock, Sheffield struck the decisive goal, clinching a narrow 4-3 victory in a match that could have gone either way.
Despite the final score line, the game was a testament to the spirit of hockey: fair play, teamwork, and mutual respect. Special thanks go to the Doncaster adults for their invaluable support both on and off the pitch, to Joss / Saira for managing substitution times seamlessly, and to the parents for supporting all children in the right way, especially on a late Saturday afternoon.
Well done to all the players for a fantastic effort—your determination and teamwork are what make games like this so memorable. Onwards and upwards for the next challenge!
DHC U12G Tournament
The under 12 girls c team travelled to chesterfield on a cold Sunday morning. We had 6 matches ahead of us, with all the girls buzzing and ready to give it their all. We started with a 0-0 draw, followed by an undeserved 2-0 loss. With much fight in the girls, we won the next game 2-0. Our next game was again a 2-0 loss, although we made it really tough for the opposition. We drew our penultimate game 0-0 and lost our last game 1-0. The girls are getting stronger and stronger each tournament and many of our defeats do not reflect our performances. The girls used the space on the pitch well and worked very strongly as a team!
