Ladies Results

Didsbury vs DHC Ladies 1s
2 - 0
Doncaster ladies 1s headed to Manchester to face Didsbury Northern, looking to build on the winning performance against Harrogate the week before.
A strong performance in the first quarter from Doncaster led to confidence going into the second, with lots of chances but unable to capitalise. Unfortunately, at the end of the second, Didsbury scored a re-awarded short corner rebound against the flow of play.
Doncaster came out swinging in the 3rd quarter, winning short corners and chances but couldn’t get the ball in the net. Didsbury then capitalised on a breakdown of play and scored a deflection goal. Doncaster continued to battle but the score line finished 2-0 to Didsbury.
An unfortunate result, not reflective of the standard of hockey played, but some good points to take forwards playing Whitley Bay at Home next weekend.

Leeds 4 v DHC Ladies 2s
2 - 0
DHC ladies 2s played away at Leeds this week vs their 4th team.

Leeds 4s started strong with their first field goal in the 12th minute putting them in the lead from the off and Doncaster on the back foot.

The first goal clearly shook the Doncaster ladies 2s and they conceded a second field goal in the 21st minute.

Doncaster ladies 2s managed to pull together for a brilliant second half resulting in many short corners in their attacking D, bringing them close to getting their first goal. Unfortunately Leeds 4 were quick out on the shorts and defended well, leaving Doncaster unlucky with no short corners being converted to goals. Overall score was 2-0 to Leeds 4, with Hattie L winning man of the match.

A great effort from the 2s, who will hopefully take all the positives from the second half into their next game at home v pocklington.

DHC Ladies 3s v Lindum 3
5 - 1
This weekend we faced Lindum 3s in a challenging game to which we extended our full abilities and dominated. Holly P got the first goal on the reverse putting it just wide of the keeper. And then, keeping possession, the team gained a short corner and Annie G smashed the ball straight past the keeper making the score 2-0 for half time. Going back into the game, Heather in goal did some brilliant saves and clearances however Lindum managed to squeeze the ball past the ladies making the score 2-1. Learning from that, the ladies went strongly forward with some fantastic passing for Holly P to score another 3 goals and everyone left the pitch having putting their heart and soul into the game and leaving with an outstanding, deserved 5-1 win.

DHC Ladies 4s v Chesterfield 3
2 -2

Men's Results

Didsbury v DHC Men's 1s
3 - 4
After a disappointing loss for the Ladies 1XI, it was left to the Men’s 1s to save the day for
Doncaster HC and come away from Manchester the points.
After a tricky start and some early pressure from the hosts, keeper Davidson made fantastic save
which fell to Cuffling who played an exquisite pass through to Cresswell who found himself 1-on-1
with the goalkeeper. After an agricultural tackle and some minor theatrics, a penalty stroke was
give which Hearne coolly dispatched.
Two more goals followed from Day (after another worldy pass from Priday) & Gibson to give us A
3-0 lead at half-time. The game should’ve been straight forward from then on, but in true
Doncaster fashion, we like to do things the hard way.
Didsbury fought back into the game and after an early exchange of goals, the hosts applied the
pressure and the game was in the balance at 4-3. Some great work from Day won a PCA which
found the back of the net to just about secure the points, despite a nervy finish.
4/4 in the league is a superb start and we’ll be looking to continue our great start this weekend
against Brooklands 2XI.

Marten Furness v DHC Men's 2s
2 - 1
The 2s headed up to north to play Marten Furness in what promised to be a feisty affair. After a narrow defeat last week, Donny were keen to bounce back with another win. Despite nothing going there way, Doncaster were finally awarded a penalty corner expertly driven home from F Wilson. Doncaster continued to ask questions of the opposition defence but had no success. A late attack from the home side saw them winning a penalty corner through what seemed to be a perfectly timed Stovesy tackle. However the home team managed to score a well routined attack leaving the score 1-1 at the break.
With the half time inspiration delivered, the lads set out again to regain their lead. No matter what the lads did, it was just not their day and nothing was capitalised on in the D. A last minute corner was won by the home side once again from what seemed a perfectly acceptable interception. A stroke of luck saw the ball loft over everybody for a Marten Furness striker to push the ball into an open net. Full-Time 2-1 loss for Doncaster as they head into next weeks fixture against local rivals Wakefield.

DHC Men's 3 v Leeds Adel 3
4 - 4
Doncaster started off poorly with little possession and went down 1-0 in the first 20.

We re-grouped and just before half time Josh Skelhorn took the ball wide in the D and put a reverse shot top bins past the keeper who didn’t see it.

The second half we started stronger and were soon gifted a flick when a defender took down Josh Bennett in the D. Josh Skelhorn stepped up and coolly slotted home his second.

The lead didn’t last long as Adel put on pressure and managed to drag the ball over the line in a short corner to make it 2-2.

Doncaster stepped up a gear and looked more settled on the ball, 2 goals in quick succession for Tom Beverley made it 4-2 and everyone thought the game was ours.

However it wasn’t to be and through some slack defending we conceded 2 in the last 10 mins.

Final score 4-4

Lindum 4 v DHC Men's 4
4 - 1
Men's 4s made the early journey down to play Lindum 4s at Yarborough School.
Last year, they ended Lindum's undefeated home, could they do it again?
Doncaster started brightly and enjoyed a good amount of possession, the only negative was losing skipper Lockwood to a hamstring injury.
Things did get better, albeit temporarily when Will Bailey scored the opening goal of the game giving the visitors hope of a repeat victory of last season.
Sadly that was as good as the first hlaf got as Doncaster were the architects of their own downfall with a mad 10 minutes.
Lindum equalised from a loose pass in midfield that was converted passed Christlo in the visitors goal.
Another mistake from Doncaster resulted in a short corner to Lindum which was deflected in by the injector.
Another mistake at the top of the D resulted in a foul and another short corner. It was stopped at the top and struck into the bottom corner with power, keeper and post man had no chance.
Another short corner and a carbon copy of the goal before.
Half time 4-1 to the hosts.
Stern words were had and everyone knew that an improvement was required.
Doncaster came out of the blocks with intent and nearly all of the next 35 minutes in and around the Lindum D. Doncaster won short corners, had clearances from the line but could not find a way through.
The Lindum keeper put in a stellar performance in the second half saving shots with all parts of his body.
Full Time 4-1
Doncaster are playing good hockey with little reward at the minute and just need a little bit of luck too.
Next week an away day at Slazenger awaits.

Selby v DHC Men's 5
8 - 1
Men’s 5 travelled to Selby for an afternoon game against Selby 1. Selby are flying high in our league and it was anticipated that this would be a tough game. Doncaster had debut senior appearances for Will R and Sam H in goal. The game started well with some good possession from Doncaster before Selby’s quality forward line began making a real difference in the game. Goals came rapidly for the home team as Doncaster battled to get the ball out to our own forward line. Some missed opportunities from penalty corners proved decisive and the end of the first half came with Doncaster down 6:0. We regrouped at half time and kept the ball well in spells with the young moving the ball around well. Lucas H once again converting for Doncaster midway through the second half was the highlight of the half and some good saves on his debut kept the second half down to a more reflective 2:1. A heavy loss and some lessons learnt to take into the next game against City of York 7’s.
