Ladies Results

Chapeltown vs DHC Ladies 3
4 - 2
After a tough battle the ladies 3s came out with a disappointing result of 2-4. Sadly it wasn't representative of the fantastic game played and skills displayed. The majority of the match was in our possession but Chapeltown's experience shone through on the day. Abi scored in the first 5 minutes but Chapeltown quickly scored their first goal and by half time were 2-1 up. A quick regroup and we went back fighting but sadly Chapeltown scored 2 more. In the last 5 minutes of the game we showed great teamwork, moving the ball up the pitch and Scarlett got another over the line for us. A great game with plenty of shots on goals but just not our day.
Ella W man of the match.

DHC Ladies 4 vs Chapeltown
5 - 1
Doncaster started strongly with some good passing and penetrating into the attacking 25. However after 6 minutes it was Chapeltown, with only 10 players, who got the ball into the D and sneaked the ball into the net. Heather then cleared the ball with some strong kicks from Chapeltown attacks which gave the defence confidence. Doncaster then settled and were able to make the most of good passing and ball retention and with Saffy running into space she drove into the D and scored. 9 minutes gone and it was anybodies game. Play was fairly open but it always looked like Doncaster were in control. After 24 minutes it was Lucia who was able to put the home team in front. The second half started with Chapeltown finding gaps with free hits but Doncaster midfield and defence held firm and they rarely looked as though they would score. Bella came on up front and immediately had an impact with good runs into space and then found herself in the D with a clear view of goal. A great shot followed putting Doncaster 3-1 up. Saffy continued to mark their strongest player out of the game and was able to pass the ball out wide where Sophia, Bella and Soph could use the space to find the forwards up front. The constant running by the forwards was eventually rewarded with Pat receiving the ball under pressure and scoring twice on 62 and 68 minutes. A great game to watch with end to end play, but even better to get the result (5-1) that Doncaster fully deserved.

Men's Results

Durham Uni vs DHC Men's 2
1 - 3
The twos travelled north to face mid-table side Durham Uni 4s. This was the first time this season the 2s have been forced into wearing the red away strip, could it bring us any luck?
The first half was a dominant performance from Doncaster applying pressure and having several chances narrowly going wide, the beat of the bunch being a volleyed effort from G Hensh onto the crossbar. However, whether it was down to a lack of composure or excellent defending, the score was still even going into the break.
HT: 0-0
Second half began well as the 2s won a PC in the opening few minutes. A well practiced and perfectly delivered routine saw Withow flick one into the Durham goal. 1-0! The pressure continued as Doncaster doubled there lead after a Fearny effort was headed off the line and a PS was awarded. Up stepped young Witho to make it his brace and placed it bottom left corner. 2-0. With 10 minutes to go an aerial ball was thrown into the Durham 23 and some misjudgement by the defender left G Hensh time to find Goodwin at the back post for an open net finish. 3-0. This put the game to bed but in T Bradley fashion, he didn’t want a clean sheet. Durham with a couple minutes to go found a chance at the back post and pushed it home.
FT: 3-1

Chesterfield vs DHC Men's 4
3 - 1
The 4s travelled to Chesterfield for the game rearranged from early January.
The first half saw possibly the best half of hockey the side had played all year. Good passing and attacking intent saw the 4s have great efforts by West, Whiteman, Fearn, and Penk only to be denied by the home keeper.
15 minutes into the match West was harshly deemed to have committed a foul for dangerously lifting the ball over a Chesterfield stick, a green was brandished for the initial enquiry given all assumed free hit was awarded to Doncaster. Green was upgraded to yellow for " verbal abuse," which was baffling as nothing further had been said.
Chesterfield did not make the most of the numerical advantage as Doncaster continued to lay beige on the hosts goal.
Chesterfield defiantly defended and got through to half time with the score 0-0.
Doncaster started the second half as the first finished and 8 minutes in managed to get the ball passed the Chesteffield goalkeeper only for it to hit a defender on the line, stroke awarded.
West calmly flicked the ball into the net, giving Doncaster the lead.
The 4s kept testing the Chesterfield goalkeeper who pulled off a string of excellent saves but couldn't find a way through.
Chesterfield cleared one such foray forward and found themselves with a 3 on 1 attack, passed it around both Brown (the last defender) and Baldwin-Hall to equalise.
The smash ball clearance happened again, Chesterfield strikers passed it around Baldwin-Hall and into the net 2-1.
Doncaster now chasing the game and getting frustrated pushed bodies forward only to come unstuck with another speculative clearance that fell to the hosts winger who ran 50 yards unchallenged before squaring the ball to his unmarked team mate in the D to slap it home. 3-1
Full-time Chesterfield 3 Doncaster 1.
The Doncaster players were shell shocked having dominated the game, Chesterfield players were elated, many mobbing their goalkeeper for his stella performance.
There is no doubt in the man of the match for the game!
Doncaster left the pitch wondering how they had not won the game!

Acomb vs DHC Men's 5
0 - 0
Doncaster men’s 5ths travelled to Acomb to attempt to play the twice postponed first meeting of the two team this season. Sitting together, adjacent, in the middle of the table the two teams went into the fixture with everything to play for.
The first half started with Doncaster dominant and buoyant from recent strong performances. Opportunities presented from all over the pitch the midfield connecting well with their teammates up and down the pitch to challenge the obviously experienced defence of Acomb. Doncaster had pitched a very youthful front line of C Lewis, C Deakin and a debut from I Green, Despite numerous opportunities from both solid teamwork and individual attempts from our youthful attacking line the defence stayed resolute. At the other end our own experienced back line held firm against some opportunistic break aways. Doncaster went down to 10 men just prior to the end of the first hand but continued to press the game and were unlucky not to take the lead but the first half finished 0:0.
The second half started as much of the first half had finished with the midfield of O Wade, B Charles, W Bailey and T Benson dominating possession closing down quickly and not giving the home team many opportunities to challenge our keeper. Some great work with the wing backs I Mallender and T Sapstead down the side lines pushed the Acomb defence hard with a number of opportunities including a few penalty corners which were unfortunately squandered.
As both teams pushed for the win the game opened up into an up and down game with both team having opportunities to open the scoring, both keepers making good saves to keep the scores level.
The second half finished with scores level at 0 - 0 but the record travelling support (9) were thoroughly entertained by the close fought nature of the tie and the opportunities created and missed.
