Oxton vs DHC Ladies 1s
0 - 1
Saturday evening saw the women’s first team take on Harrogate away for the first Yorkshire derby of the season. The team have come off the back of two losses and so were ready to go out fighting.
And they did! A goal in the first quarter by C Dodds set the team up for the rest of the game. Harrogate, however, also had a lot to prove and weren’t giving up the game easily. Donny continued to battle though and had some great chances but couldn’t quite get the ball over the line again.
The team pushed hard to the final whistle and was able to retain the 1-0 score through to the end. A fantastic win for the women’s 1s and some much needed moral going forward to next weekend where they play Didsbury away.
DHC Ladies 2s vs Wakefield Slagenzers 1
1 - 1
Doncaster were at home this week against Slazengers and with a draw last week were keen to get a win, however Slazengers had other ideas.
Slazengers started strong with attacking play from the get go, with Doncaster on the back foot. Slazengers didn’t waste any time and scored their first goal within 5 minutes of the game starting from a strike into the top right corner of the goal. Slazengers continued to dominate causing Doncaster’s defence more trouble, leading to Slazengers’ second goal after a further 5 mins. Doncaster continued to battle but conceded several penalty corners, which were defended extremely well, with GK Jess making some crucial saves and Neve stopping one on the back post. Unfortunately Slazengers continued to push forward and scored a further 2 goals before half time.
The second half Doncaster picked up and managed to play some attacking hockey, spending a lot of time in and around Slazengers’ D. From some strong midfield play from Erica, to win a sideline ball, quickly taken by Esther to Thorpy, Slazengers made their first mistake by giving Thorpy too much time on the ball to score Doncaster’s first goal.
Slazengers response to this was to dribble the ball from the pushback and score a further goal with 1 minute.
Doncaster had some great attacking play in the 2nd half with opportunities to score but just couldn’t convert the chances, and Slazengers broke once again scoring from a penalty corner in the 60th minute. Doncaster never gave up and with pressure from the forwards, Erin intercepted a ball near the top of the D and with a driving run along the baseline slotted the ball past their keeper to give Doncaster a much deserved 2nd goal. Unfortunately, Slazengers continued to push forward and scored once again in the 68th minute leaving the score at 7-2 to Slazengers.

Hull vs DHC Ladies 3s
3 - 3
Tough start to the game as Hull scored and we were 1-0 down, but it was short-lived as E. Woodhouse scored to equalise.
After some great tackles and teamwork, H. Pinchin then scored a cracking goal to make it 2-1 to Doncaster. But then Hull scored to make it 2-2 by halftime.
After halftime, we came back on as a strong team, made some great tackles and passes. Unfortunately, it then went up to 3-2 for Hull. After some great effort and teamwork, H. Pinchin scored the equaliser, claiming the team that all important 1 point.
We can walk away from the game, feeling more positive and to build a stronger team, having learnt from that game against Hull.
RHC 3s vs DHC Ladies 4s
4 - 4
It was a bright breezy day for the DHC Ladies 4 to meet RHC 3 away. Doncaster fielded a mixed team of regulars with U16 and U14 players against a youthful Rotherham team. Following a first half 2/0 lead from Rotherham, the Doncaster ladies remained determined(with only one sub) and fought back to reach an eventual 4/4 draw. Goals from Ruby- a hat trick with Sue rattling the back board with the final penalty flick equalizer. A sound performance for a team establishing itself with new faces.

Oxton vs DHC Men's 1s
1 - 5
A tough place to go on a Sunday afternoon for our first away fixture, and after a few late arrivals,
we arrived at Oxton for our 2:30 push back.
Playing on a new pitch in a new venue, the Oxton crowd were hopeful of a win and were fairly
vocal in the early exchanges. Cresswell soon wiped the smile off their faces as he put us 1-0 up. A
further maiden goal from Pickles meant we were 2-0 up at half time, but the game was still very
much in the balance.
As has been the norm this season, when called upon, Davidson made some key saves at key
moments to keep us in front. The third, and perhaps our best goal came from Cogley-Rock after a
fantastic team move - this proved a significant goal and the Oxton crowd and players were
silenced, and the home team lost hope of gaining any points from the fixture.
More goals from Day, and a collector’s item from Powell put Doncaster 5-0 up and put the game
beyond any doubt. Frustratingly, we let a clean sheet slip through a lack of concentration and
intensity on the ball, which gave the home crowd something to cheer about. Luckily, Pickles was
on hand to remind them of the score….
We’re 3/3 in the league this season and will be working hard to maintain our 100% record this
Saturday with an evening trip to Didsbury.
DHC M2s vs Lindum
1 - 2
Lindum visited the JSM arena to face the 2nd XI this week, with both unbeaten entering the game. Doncaster started the brighter and forced several short corners, however, despite going close, were unable to convert. After failing to make the pressure count, Lindum seized the opportunity to counter and deflected in the opener to take a 1-0 lead into the interval. Following a stern half time team talk, Doncaster came out strong in the second half and were soon on level terms, with a lovely shot on the turn from Skelhorn finding the back of the net. Doncaster continued to push but failed to find the illusive second goal. Instead it went to Lindum, who capitalised on a turn over at the top of the D to take a 2-1 lead. Both teams had chances in the final 10 minutes but neither were able to add to their tally, meaning Doncaster fell to their first defeat of the season and are left looking to bounce back with a trip away to Marton Furness next week.
Harrogate 2s vs DHC M3s
2 - 3
Game week 4. Harrogate 2’s hosted Doncaster men’s 3’s. Doncaster with great availability and Harrogate new to the league following relegation last year had the potential for a great game.
In the early exchanges of the game Doncaster dominated possession. A nice pass down the right down the right side of the pitch followed by some tidy work down the right led to a nice back post finish by L Goodwin. 1-0 DHC.
Doncaster continued the pressure for most of the first half missing a few good chances to double the lead. DHC kept a dangerous looking Harrogate line up at bay until HT.
At the beginning of the second half a goal identical to Doncaster 1st, though J Houltby finishing this time round.
Harrogate came back into the game very strongly increasing pressure with a number of penalty corners. In the 41st minute Harrogate scored a nice drag flick to make it 2-1.
Harrogate pushed hard for an equaliser and against the momentum of the game J Houltby scored his second goal, 3-1 to DHC.
Harrogate responded again after a mid trapped aerial landed with the Harrogate attacker who finished well to make for a squeaky finish to the game. 3-2.
The remainder of the game was all Harrogate. Doncaster defending penalty corner after penalty corner with 2 unbelievable goal line picks from J Gleeson with video evidence.
The Doncaster defence held firm for the final whistle to pick up their 3rd win of the season.
DHC M4s vs Barnsley
0 - 1
The Men's 4s welcomed local rivals and last season's division winners Barnsley to the JSM Arena.
This was always going to be a hard fought close game.
Following the visitors push back they scored with their first meaningful attack with a shot deflected up and looping over Seaton in the home goal.
8 mins played and first blood to the visitors.
This sprung Doncaster into attack and made good progress down both flanks but couldn't get a shot off on target in the first half despite good build up play.
Half time Doncaster 0 Barnsley 1
The second half saw Doncaster pretty much camped on the Barnsley 23 yard line with Barnsley clearing and trying to smash and grab a second goal but the Doncaster backline thwarted any further Barnsley advances (notable good interceptions by M Brown and N Potts).
Good forays forward by T Brown, E West and W Harris all got snuffed out.
M Goodwin made good ground up the right, the ball managing to evade everyone as it passed through the D.
Final Score 0-1
The visitors ecstatic as the full time whistle went.
For all of the play it was just not Doncaster's day.
Next week seems the 4s go on the road again to Lindum 4s. DHC will be hoping lady luck finally shines on them and they can get their first points of the season.
