Ladies Results

DHC Ladies 1s vs Whitley Bay and Tynemouth
1-2
The ladies 1s hosted newly promoted Whitley Bay and Tynemouth at the John Marshall Arena. Having been disappointed with recent results the ladies were determined to get some points out of this game. The game was evenly matched with both teams mounting pressure on the oppositions defence. It was short corners that were the feature of this game; Whitley Bay converting their 1st on 45 mins. Doncaster equalised on the 48th minute from a second phase short corner. Whitley Bay took 3 points with the their 2nd short corner conversion on 52 minutes. If you went to the bar for a drink you missed all the goals in this game!

DHC Ladies 2s vs Pocklington
1-2
The ladies 3s played Pocklington, narrowly missing out on the 3 points needed. Pocklington scored the first two goals of the game putting Doncaster now under pressure. The girls fought hard to try and redeem the score line with a goal from E Yates, but it was not meant to be, leaving the final score 2-1 to Pocklington.

DHC Ladies 4s vs University of Sheffield
3-2
The Ladies 4 team met University of Sheffield on a bleak wet morning at DHC.
The first goal came from Scarlett 17 minutes in.
Goal 2 was as a result of a short corner with Sue scoring.
Another short corner followed with a no score from Grace as the ball went in but above the back board.
A number of short corners followed from Sheffield leading to a goal for them leaving the score as 2/1 to DHC at half time.
As the second half started the rain stopped and Rosemarie in goal came under pressure from Sheffield. A series of great saves on the floor prevented Sheffield equalizing. There followed a series of shots on goal and short corners for both teams. Well in to the second half by now, Sheffield scored a second goal to bring the score to 2/2.
With two minutes to go and the pressure on, the DHC ladies performed some impressive passing which left Sue in a prime position of one on one against the keeper. Thankfully she held her nerve to put it away past the Sheffield keeper to give a DHC win of 3/2 with minutes to spare.
The morning was topped off with homemade cake from Kerry at the Clubhouse enjoyed by players and supporters alike.
A win and cake, surely this is the way forwards!

Men's Results

DHC Men's 1s vs Brooklands 2X1
4-2
Anticipation was high at Town Fields as Doncaster looked to make it 5 straight wins in the National North Conference. In this fixture last year, the visitors caused us some trouble, and with Hearne calling for confidence and professionalism in the changing room, we took to the turf to warm up.
After negotiating some less than ideal weather in the warm up, the sun came out for push back just as our resident weatherman Powell said it would.
We started brightly and bypassed the Brooklands press with relative ease. 3 minutes in, we got our reward with a cultured deflected finish from Oades after a terrific ball from Cuffling. 20 minutes later we doubled the lead through a PCA, but frustratingly got caught out on the counter and went in at HT 2-1 up.
A further successful PCA put us 3-1 up, but all credit to Brooklands, they fought back and made things really difficult for us. After a well-worked PCA routine of their own, the score was 3-2 and the game in the balance.
Thankfully, a counter attack of our own ended up with the ball in the back of the net via a deflection off the recovering defender’s stick. The goal went down as Davenport’s and he celebrated accordingly.
A 4-2 win with an excellent first half followed by a frantic second half, but the team did enough on the day to take the points. We go into a week off second in the table on goal difference, with a stiff test in 2 weeks time against Leeds.

DHC Men's 2s vs Wakefield

6-2
After dropping 3 points away last week, the 2s faced local rivals Wakefield at home. The game began and it was clear donny were the stronger side as future star Tomo deflected one in off of a penalty corner giving us the lead. A second shortly followed from a volleyed attempt by G Henshaw and a third from Harry. Doncaster continued their domination in the game and just before half time Rudkin made it 4-0 with a lovely driven shot past the keeper.
HT 4-0.
As the skippers shared their wisdom at the break Doncaster did not let up and pursued a fifth. A reverse effort from Seth found the top right corner shortly followed by a Whittaker wonder goal, lobbing the keeper and defender. The lads may have switched off a bit and conceded 2 late goals in the dying moments leaving the score 6-2 at the FT whistle. A great response to last week and a much needed 3 points gained going into the next game travelling to Newcastle Uni.

Leeds 5s vs DHC Men's 3s
3-3

Slazenger's vs DHC Men's 4s

2-6
The Men's 4th XI travelled up the M1 to Slazenger's to play their 2nd XI.
The 4s were without a few noticeable players due to injury, sickness, and other reasons, but they still fielded a strong 13 on paper.
Doncaster started the quickest and, with their first attack, put the host's defence and keeper under a lot of pressure, resulting in a goal line melee, how the ball didn't go in is anybody's guess!
The silly mistakes and sloppy passing that has been an ever-present this season remained and an early short corner for the home side resulted in a dubious goal, Christlo in goal saving the initial undercut shot with his chest before the rebound was tucked away. The umpires consulted, but the goal stood.
Shortly after this, another short was firmly drilled home by Slazenger's, thudding into the backboard.
Then the hosts were awarded a flick, which was put passed a valiant attempt by Christlo to save it. On this occasion, Lady Luck sided with the visitors as the flick taker was adjudged to have taken it illegally, a 16 hit awarded eventually.
Slazenger did get their 3rd goal from another short corner soon afterwards.
Glasby immediately reduced the deficit to 2 goals as again the 4s enjoyed plenty of possession.
West looking sharper game by game proved to be a thorn in Slazenger's side for the duration of the half.
A few minutes before half-time, Slazenger's re-established their 3 goal cushion, converting another short corner, Tuddenham completing his hat-trick in the process.
Half-time 4-1
The second half started as the first ended with another short corner that the host managed to convert.
Immediately from the restart Doncaster worked the ball through midfield, the ball breaking to West who got his reward (for all his hard work these last 3 games) lashing the ball passed the home keeper into the top corner; definitely the goal of the day.
In a game that was played end to end, another moment of chaos on the pitch. Slazenger's won another short corner, but on this occasion, the ball ended up wedged under Martin Brown on the line, the umpires with the easiest decision of the day to award another flick.
This time, the striker made sure he didn't faux-pas, a change of side, and nearly another save, but Christlo beaten for pace as the ball flew into the inside of the post.
West nearly scored another consolation goal at the death his hot from the short corner slip drilled into the base of the post.
Slazenger's finished the game as 6-2 victors. Tuddenham ended up with 5 of them.
Set pieces and naivety seem to be the 4s downfall. They are playing good hockey, but in this new league, they have been promoted into these mistakes are getting punished.
Hopefully, the slip week brings with it an opportunity to regroup, rest, hopefully get some players back, and be refreshed, ready to take on Horncastle at home on 02 November.
