9. Parent Representative


Parent representative : Tim jones

Role : The Parent Representative serves as a representative for parents of junior players at Doncaster Hockey Club, attending monthly executive meetings to convey parents' opinions, concerns, and recommendations. Acting as a key contact, the liaison gathers and shares feedback with the committee, maintains open lines of communication, and reports back to parents on important club updates.

Key Tasks:

Serve as a Liaison
Act as a point of contact between parents and the club committee, ensuring that parents’ feedback, concerns, and suggestions are relayed to the committee in a constructive manner.

Attend Monthly Executive Meetings
Represent parents of junior players at monthly committee meetings to share opinions, concerns and recommendations.

Gather and Represent Parent Feedback
Regularly check in with parents to gather their input on issues affecting players and families, such as training schedules, safety, travel arrangements, and club policies.

Facilitate Communication
Help improve communication by keeping parents informed about club updates, policies, and events. This could involve sharing minutes from meetings, summarising key decisions, or addressing FAQs.

Promote Family Involvement
Encourage family engagement in club activities, such as volunteering at events, participating in fundraisers, or attending matches. Represent family interests in discussions about these activities.

Contribute to Club Culture
Promote a positive environment by encouraging sportsmanship, inclusivity, and a supportive culture among parents. This might involve reminding families of codes of conduct or providing guidance on club values.

Collaborate on Improvements
Work with the committee to identify areas for improvement within the club, such as facilities, communication practices, or support services, and advocate for changes that benefit both players and families.

Ensure Inclusivity
Represent all parents, ensuring that everyone feels heard, including those who might not often voice concerns. This could involve creating feedback channels, like anonymous surveys or suggestion boxes.

Gather Feedback on Coaches and Programs
Create channels for parents to provide feedback on coaching, training schedules, or other club programs, which can help the club continuously improve.

Develop a Parent Code of Conduct
Collaborate with the committee to draft a code of conduct for parents that outlines expectations for behaviour, helping to set a positive standard and prevent conflicts.

Represent the Club in the Broader Community
Promote the club positively within the local community, helping to raise awareness, increase membership, or enhance the club’s reputation.

Coordinate Feedback Surveys
Conduct periodic surveys to gather broad feedback on parents’ satisfaction with the club, ensuring decisions reflect the needs of the parent community.

Adapt the Role Over Time
Remain flexible and open to changes in the role’s responsibilities, as the needs of the club and the junior section may evolve throughout the season.

Coordinate with the Chair or Secretary
Work closely with the club’s chair or secretary to manage parent engagement, including organising an open vote at the AGM if more than one person is interested in the role.
